#Eat that Frog with a Pomodoro

It’s a technique to focus on your work or assigned task without being distracted. In order to be productive and manage your time effectively the Pomodoro technique helps in setting the time limit for the task and complete it under strict deadline and rewarding yourself afterwards for staying focused and completing the task.

“This method can help anyone learn to focus.” -Wall Street Journal

I was assigned a task from my manager to compile data for an official assignment so I decided to apply this technique in order to be productive and complete my task timely. I set the timer to 25 minutes and continued my work with focus. I was distracted by my phone notifications and my colleague’s conversation sitting besides me but I remained focused enough to avoid these distractions.

After these 25 minutes of continuous work I realized that it needs commitment task to stay focused and avoid distractions and I rewarded my self with a 5 minutes break.

The Pomodoro technique helped me to to do portion of my work at a greater pace. I repeated this activity four times and observed a significant improvement in my speed of work as well as the sense of achievement at the end of the task. I continued to take short breaks by increasing my reward with the addition of 5 more minutes each time. Rewarding yourself at the end of each chunk of 25 minutes seemed interesting to me while thinking it as a reward instead of just taking it as a free time.

There was a sense of relief and achievement when I was done with this whole activity and concluded that the Pomodoro technique is quite useful to concentrate on your tasks and avoid distractions with a reward system. To multiply the productivity to manifolds I shared this technique with my peers as well and they liked it a lot.
